Types of Nuts
Hex Nuts
The common, six-sided fasteners are the Hex Nuts, which are much preferred, owing to their versatility and to their convenience when employing the regular type of wrenches, as only one-sixth of a turn is necessary to connect with the next flat. They come in different variations, finished, semi-finished, and slotted, and are most commonly used as the general structural bolting and assembly fastener in the heavy machinery, construction and automotive industries.
Heavy Hex Nuts
The heavy hex nuts are larger, thicker and more powerful than the normal hex nuts. They are designed to carry loads that are extremely higher and high strength bolts are applied in high structures such as bridges and buildings. They have an advantage of being larger so as to provide good grip and support that makes a strong and secure connection.
Cap (Acorn) Nuts
The cap nuts have a dome shaped top which covers and protects the threads on the bolts. This assists in avoiding destruction, rusting and sharps. They are also commonly referred to as acorn nuts and are usually utilized where the appearance is important or where the exposed thread might be unsafe such as on an axle or shaft or on visible machinery components.
Jam Nuts
Jam nuts are low profile nuts that are about half the height of a regular hex nut and these nuts are usually then used in two pairs on a counter-torque basis to form a strong mechanical lock. They are mostly used to keep assemblies stationary, when there is limited space, by creating a force across a typical nut to keep it tight, so that it cannot loosen up during vibration or heating/cooling.
Flange Nuts
Flange Nuts have an inbuilt circular washer like extension at the bottom and this plays the role of spreading the load across a larger bearing surface when they are tightened. This combined design does not require the use of a distinct washer, and serves to prevent loss of material surface and can therefore be used in automotive exhaust systems and machinery assembly.
Coupling Nuts
Coupling nuts are long threaded nuts that are used to join two threaded components such as two rods or bolts. They are longer than ordinary nuts and therefore they are able to join pieces together in a secure way and also help in increasing the length. They are usually applied in pipe support, rod suspension, and where an excellent relation and good bond are required.
Nyloc (Nylon Lock) Nuts
Nyloc Nuts, also called prevailing torque nuts, have a nylon insert in the top collar, which deforms when threaded on to a bolt, forming friction which prevents vibration and loosening. These are reusable nuts that can be used in cars, electronics and machines where vibration is a constant order as long as the temperature is not above the melting point of nylon.
Prevailing Torque Nuts
Prevailing Torque Nuts have their locking action by imposing friction on the bolt threads by an all-metal deliberate deformed or elliptical top section. These nuts are also desirable when compared to Nyloc nuts because they do not need metal friction unlike in high-temperature conditions or where extreme shock and vibration conditions do not allow nylon inserts.
Square Nuts
Square nuts are four sided nuts, which provide more surface contact than the normal hex nuts, also preventing any loosening or turning. They are typically applied to square headed bolts in heavy machinery, railway gear or in older or antique furniture where their form allows them to be more easily held and prevents twisting.
Slotted and Castle Nuts
Radial slots or turret-shaped design on top Slotted and Castle Nuts are specifically designed to receive a cotter pin or a safety wire. This design enables the nut to be positively clamped to the bolt using a hole cut in the shank where the nut and the bolt are vital in holding the wheel bearings, spindles, and vital pieces of machinery together in the event of a disastrous failure due to loosening in constant vibration.
Nut Materials
As expert nuts manufacturers in India, we specialize in producing nuts across a vast range of materials, enabling optimal performance in any environment.
- Carbon Steel: Some of the common commercial grades (e.g., Grade 8, 10, 12) are available in both standard commercial grades and high-strength grades (e.g., Grade 8, 10, 12). Generally only high tensile power is needed, so no corrosion resistance is required.
- Alloy Steel: Has quenched and tempered grades such as ASTM A194 Grade 2H and Grade 7. These materials have a very high strength and are essential to high pressure and high temperature application in the energy industry.
- Stainless Steel: Selecting the best corrosive and chemical resistant. Our popular grades include SS304 (ASTM A194 Gr. 8), SS316 (ASTM A194 Gr. 8M), and SS316L, which are best suited in the marine, chemical, and food processing use.
- Non- Ferrous and Composite Materials: We also offer fasteners and standoffs in such material types as Brass and Nylon composite in case of any specialized need
