What is Nickel 200? Properties, Uses & Why It Matters
Nickel 200 (UNS N02200 / WERKSTOFF NR. 2.4066) is a commercially pure wrought nickel alloy with a minimum nickel content of 99.0%. Manufactured to ASTM B162 / ASME SB162, it is the industry-standard choice wherever exceptional resistance to corrosive environments, high thermal conductivity and reliable mechanical properties at both ambient and elevated temperatures are required.
Jade Alloys is a Mumbai-based supplier and exporter of ASTM B162 UNS N02200 sheet and plate, with ready stock dispatched to customers in the UAE, USA, Singapore, Saudi Arabia and 47 additional countries. We maintain stock of ASTM B162 UNS N02200 sheets, plates, coils, strips, foils and shims at our Mumbai facility, with EN 10204 3.1 Mill Test Certificates and same-week dispatch capability.
Nickel 200 is the preferred pure nickel grade for handling sodium hydroxide (caustic soda), hydrofluoric acid, and fluorine-based reactor environments applications where even small alloy additions can compromise performance. Its ferromagnetic properties, excellent weldability and low work-hardening rate make it equally valuable in electronic components, food processing equipment, marine hardware and chemical plant fabrication.

Applications of Nickel 200 Sheets & Plates by Industry
Nickel 200’s unique combination of corrosion resistance, thermal conductivity, and magnetic properties makes it irreplaceable in a range of demanding industrial sectors:
- Chemical Processing: Handling sodium hydroxide (caustic soda), hydrochloric acid, hydrofluoric acid, and fluorine. Nickel 200 is the preferred material for caustic soda evaporators, reaction vessels, and pipework in alkali environments.
- Food Processing: Equipment in contact with food products benefits from Nickel 200’s resistance to organic acids and neutral pH environments. Compliant with food-grade standards.
- Electronics & Electrical: Used as electrode substrates, relay components, battery terminals, and spark plug electrodes due to its electrical conductivity and magnetic properties.
- Oil & Gas / Petrochemical: Vessels and components in sour service environments where NACE MR0175 compliance is required. Downhole tools and wellhead components.
- Power Generation: Nickel 200 is used in nuclear reactor components and steam generator liners operating below 315°C. For service above 315°C, Nickel 201 (UNS N02201) is the specified grade — see grade comparison table.
- Marine & Offshore: Seawater-cooled heat exchangers, marine hardware, and offshore platform components where biofouling resistance is needed.
- Aerospace & Defense: Structural components and specialty applications requiring high purity nickel with predictable magnetic and mechanical behavior.
- Pharmaceutical: Reactors and vessels in drug synthesis where metallic contamination must be controlled and corrosion resistance to pharmaceutical solvents is required.
- Semiconductor & Electronics Manufacturing: Ultra-high-purity nickel sheet used as target material and electrode substrate in chemical vapour deposition (CVD) and physical vapour deposition (PVD) processes. Growing demand segment with no equivalent coverage on competitor pages.
- Plating & Surface Treatment: Nickel 200 anodes for electroplating baths. Also used as a base material for thermal spray coating substrates.
Welding Nickel 200 Sheets & Plates
Nickel 200 is readily weldable by GTAW (TIG), GMAW (MIG), SMAW, and resistance welding processes. Recommended filler metal is ERNi-1 (AWS A5.14) for GTAW and GMAW, or ENi-1 (AWS A5.11) for SMAW. Pre-heat is not required for material below 3 mm thickness. For heavier sections, preheat to 100°C minimum is recommended. Post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) is not mandatory for Nickel 200 in standard chemical service conditions. For sour service applications requiring NACE MR0175 compliance, consult Jade Alloys’ technical team for weld procedure qualification requirements.
