Hastelloy C22 Plates are specifically used in flue gas desulfurization (FGD) scrubbers, pharmaceutical reactor linings, and chlorine handling systems where C276 performance is insufficient. The alloy’s tungsten content provides superior resistance in mixed-acid environments. It has also been used successfully as scrubber components for hospital waste, municipal waste, and spent solvent incineration, as well as in waste-water treatment ion exchange resin rejuvenation systems.
Welding and Fabrication of Hastelloy C22 Sheets and Plates
Hastelloy C22 can be welded using GTAW (TIG), GMAW (MIG), SMAW (stick), SAW, and plasma welding processes. The recommended filler metal is ERNiCrMo-10 (AWS A5.11 ENiCrMo-10), which is a matching C22 filler. No post-weld heat treatment is required due to the alloy’s low carbon content, which prevents grain-boundary carbide precipitation. Avoid welding in the 600 to 1100 deg C range to prevent sensitisation.
Available fabrication processes include edging, deburring, grinding, waterjet cutting, laser cutting, plasma cutting, and oxy-propane flame cutting. Value-added services include cutting to length, polishing, sawing, shearing, bending, blanking, and slitting.
