Hastelloy C22 Plates and Sheets | ASTM B575 UNS N06022 Supplier Mumbai, India

Jade Alloys has been supplying Hastelloy C22 Sheets and Plates from Mumbai for years now, and we stock the full range: hot-rolled plates, cold-rolled sheets, coils, strips, foils, shim sheets, in thicknesses from 0.3 mm right up to 120 mm. Every piece we ship carries an EN 10204 3.1 Mill Test Certificate fully traceable to ASTM B575 / UNS N06022 (Werkstoff Nr. 2.4602). No exceptions.

C22 is not a general-purpose alloy. It was built for environments that eat through stainless steel and even C276: oxidizing acid service, wet chlorine, nitric acid mixtures, media with chloride ions that cause pitting and crevice attack. What makes it work is the composition: 20 to 22.5% chromium, 12.5 to 14.5% molybdenum, and crucially 2.5 to 3.5% tungsten, which C276 does not have. That tungsten addition is what pushes C22 ahead in mixed-acid and chlorinated environments. The low carbon keeps it clean at the grain boundaries, so you can weld it and put it straight into service with no post-weld heat treatment needed. Continuous service goes to 677°C (1250°F) and intermittent up to 1093°C (2000°F). It holds up in reactor linings, FGD scrubbers, heat exchangers, pharmaceutical vessels, chlorine handling systems, anywhere the process chemistry is genuinely aggressive.

We buy directly from Haynes International, VDM Metals, Special Metals and Thyssenkrupp, which keeps our pricing sharp and our material fully traceable back to the mill. From our Mumbai warehouse, standard orders go out within 3 working days. We export regularly to Saudi Arabia, UAE, Germany, the USA, Singapore and 45+ other countries, so export documentation including Certificate of Origin, Form E and fumigation certificates is something we handle routinely. Cut-to-size, custom thicknesses, non-standard widths: talk to us and we will tell you straight whether we have it or how fast we can get it.

Welding & Fabrication of Hastelloy C22 Sheets & Plates

Hastelloy C22 can be welded using GTAW (TIG), GMAW (MIG), SMAW (stick), SAW, and plasma welding processes. The recommended filler metal is ERNiCrMo-10 (AWS A5.11 ENiCrMo-10), a matching C22 filler. No post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) is required due to the alloy’s low carbon content, which prevents grain-boundary carbide precipitation. Welding procedures for Hastelloy C22 can be qualified per ASME Section IX. No PWHT required per ASTM B575 Annex A. Avoid welding in the 600–1100 °C range to prevent sensitisation.

Welding Process Notes
GTAW (TIG) Recommended for precision welds and thin sheets
GMAW (MIG) Suitable for automated welding of plates
SMAW (Stick) General purpose, suitable for field welding
SAW Submerged arc welding for heavy plates
Filler Metal ERNiCrMo-10 (Hastelloy C22 matching filler)
Post-Weld Heat Treatment Not required (as-welded use permitted)
Welding Electrode AWS A5.11 ENiCrMo-10
ASME Qualification Per ASME Section IX

Available fabrication services: Edging, deburring, grinding, waterjet cutting, laser cutting, plasma cutting, oxy-propane flame cutting, cutting to length, polishing, sawing, shearing, bending, blanking, and slitting.

Hastelloy C22 vs C276 — Which to Choose?

Both Hastelloy C22 and C276 are nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloys covered under ASTM B575, but differ in composition and performance. Use this table to select the right grade:

Property Hastelloy C22 (UNS N06022) Hastelloy C276 (UNS N10276)
Oxidizing acid resistance Superior Good
Reducing acid resistance Good Superior
Chlorine SCC resistance Superior Good
Chloride pitting resistance Superior Good
Tungsten content Yes (2.50–3.50%) No
Mixed-acid environments Superior Good
Weldability Excellent (as-welded) Excellent
ASTM Standard B575 B575

For mixed-acid and chlorinated environments, Hastelloy C22 is typically the better choice. For a broader range of reducing conditions, C276 is preferred. Contact Jade Alloys for a technical recommendation based on your specific application and corrosive media.

FAQs — Hastelloy C22 Sheets & Plates

What is Hastelloy C22?

Hastelloy C22 (UNS N06022) is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum-tungsten superalloy offering outstanding resistance to corrosion, pitting, and stress corrosion cracking in aggressive chemical environments. It is available in sheets, plates, coils, strips, foils, and shims to ASTM B575.

How does Alloy C22 differ from stainless steel?

Unlike stainless steel, Alloy C22 is a nickel-based alloy with significantly higher molybdenum and chromium levels, giving it superior performance in oxidizing acids, chloride environments, and mixed-acid conditions where stainless steels fail. The addition of tungsten further enhances its resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion.

Which is better, Hastelloy C22 or C276?

C22 outperforms C276 in oxidizing media and offers better resistance to chlorine stress corrosion cracking. C276 is preferred for a broader range of reducing conditions. For mixed-acid and chlorinated environments, C22 is typically the better choice. C22 also has excellent fabrication characteristics.

What is the maximum service temperature for Hastelloy C22 plates?

Hastelloy C22 plates can be used up to 677°C (1250°F) in continuous service. Exposure above this temperature may cause detrimental phase precipitation. For intermittent service, the alloy performs reliably up to 1093°C (2000°F).

Can Hastelloy C22 sheets be welded without post-weld heat treatment?

Yes. The low carbon content of Hastelloy C22 prevents grain-boundary carbide precipitation, making it suitable for use in the as-welded condition without additional PWHT. Welding procedures can be qualified per ASME Section IX per ASTM B575 Annex A.

What welding processes are recommended for Hastelloy C22?

GTAW (TIG), GMAW (MIG), and SMAW (stick) processes are all compatible with Hastelloy C22 sheets and plates. A matching C22 filler metal (ERNiCrMo-10) is recommended for all weld joint types.

What is the price of Hastelloy C22 sheet per kg?

Hastelloy C22 sheet and plate pricing depends on thickness, width, surface finish, and order quantity. Indicative prices range from INR 2,800–3,500/kg (India) or USD 34–42/kg (export). Contact Jade Alloys for a mill-direct quote with current pricing.

What is the HS Code for Hastelloy C22 plates?

HS Code 75062000 covers nickel alloy plates including Hastelloy C22. Use this code for customs documentation and import duty calculation.

What is the minimum order quantity for Hastelloy C22 sheets?

Jade Alloys supplies from 1 kg for cut-to-size sheets. Standard mill coil minimum is approximately 50 kg. Contact us for exact MOQ based on your thickness and width requirement.

Do you supply Hastelloy C22 with EN 10204 3.2 certification?

Yes, we can arrange EN 10204 3.2 (third-party witnessed) MTCs on request. Additional lead time of 5–7 working days applies.

Is Hastelloy C22 suitable for seawater applications?

Yes. Hastelloy C22 has superior resistance to chloride-induced pitting and crevice corrosion, making it an excellent material for seawater handling systems, desalination equipment, and marine heat exchangers.
