ASTM A194 Grade 4 Specification for High Strength Nuts and Threaded Fasteners
ASTM A194 Grade 4 is a standard specification which is related to high-strength nuts and other internally threaded fasteners which are manufactured with the help of carbon molybdenum steel. Such Grade 4 nuts could be forged either by hot forging, cold forging, or machined out of a bar stock and then subjected to the appropriate heat treatment. ASTM A194 standard defines the required chemical content, heat treatment, hardness degree, proof load and other criteria of Grade 4 nuts. ASTM A194 Grade 4 nuts could be used in the service application of high-pressure and/or high-temperature service.
These nuts are to meet the American National Standard Heavy Hex Series (ANSI B 18.2.2) unless otherwise indicated to the contrary. Standard thread fit The UNC Series Class 2B fit is specified to the nominal size through to and including 1 inch, and a size larger than 1 inch may be made to either the UNC Series Class 2B fit or the 8 UN Series Class 2B fit.
These nuts are high-strength Grade 4 and are easy to find and they may serve as a replacement of ASTM A563 Grade DH nuts, especially in a situation when DH nuts are hard to find in certain diameters and finishes.
The general standard on ASTM A194 encompasses numerous grades of alloy and stainless steel bolting that are used in high-pressure and high-temperature settings and special requirements. There are a number of grades of ferritic and austenitic stainless steels encompassed under this standard, and designations include B5, B6, B7, B8 and B8M.
