ASTM A194 standard is the specification of Carbon, Alloy Steel Nuts and martensitic and austenitic stainless steel nuts that will be used with bolts in either high-pressure or high-temperature service or both. This standard is broadly applied, with ranges of 4 inches, 1/4 inch, or metric sizes of M6 to M100 nominal, specifically to carbon, alloy and martensitic stainless steel nuts, and austenitic stainless steel nuts are included in the 1/4 inch and M6 nominal size ranges and larger.

ASTM A194 Grade 8C nuts are high-strength alloy steel components that are produced by the ASTM standards. They are made out of a combination of chromium and carbon steel, thereby making them highly durable, corrosion-resistant, and with a higher tensile strength than the normal Grade 8 bolts. They are also resistant to corrosion and can be used in sanitary conditions that are exposed to chemicals or corrosive liquids. They are part of a group of fasteners of specialty that contains such types as ASTM A193 B8 CL2 and ASTM A193 B8M fasteners.

What is the difference between A194 Grade 8C Fasteners and 8M?
The main difference is the composition of the materials and tensile strength. Grade 8C fasteners of A194 have medium carbon alloy steel content and have a significantly high minimum tensile strength of 150 ksi. Conversely, A194 Grade 8M fasteners are fasteners constructed of high-strength stainless steel (Austenitic, the same as 316 grade) and have a tensile strength of a minimum of 125 ksi.
Is Grade 8C Fasteners high tensile?
Yes, Grade 8C fasteners are high-tension products. They are built of carbon steel that has been alloyed to provide strength, which makes them have very high tensile strength that can even be 200 ksi and above. In addition to great strength, these fasteners are also extremely ductile and weldable, which makes them highly appropriate in demanding services, especially in low-temperature services and medium-pressure systems. The natural toughness of Grade 8C enables them to be sure of much pressure without rupturing and causing permanent damage.
