About Countersunk Bolts
Countersunk bolts are a type of fastener that has a flat head which flattens the surface when fixed on. The head is hex socketed and clamped with an Allen key. Due to the shape, the bolts are commonly utilized in areas where a smooth and a straight finish is needed.
The top is conical, so that the bolt fits snugly in a countersunked hole. These bolts are also referred to as a flat head hex socket bolt or flat head socket cap bolt. These words are all used in reference to the same basic design.
Countersunk bolts are provided in both imperial and metric measures. Forms of common thread such as UNC, UNF, UN, and ISO metric are used.
They are produced in diverse materials and grades to meet various requirements in terms of strength, corrosion and temperatures. Common standards are ASTM F568 (Grades 8.8, 10.9 and 12.9), ASTM F593 and BS EN ISO 3506-1. Other versions like stainless steel that are widely used are SS304, SS316 as well as duplex stainless steel like 2205.
