About Eye Bolts
Eye Bolts, also called lifting eye bolts or forged eye bolts, are headless threaded bolts in the shape of an eye, with an externally threaded body, normally utilized in lifting, rigging and load-handling tasks. These bolts have a design that gives them the capacity to safely free heavy loads provided that they are installed properly in a tapped hole or when being used with a high-strength nut.
Eye bolts are either hot forged or cold forged and they may have or may not have a shoulder depending on the direction of load, and the requirements of the application. As a result of their lifting ability, eye bolts are usually manufactured in high tensile alloy steel, carbon steel, stainless steel and ASTM-specified alloys to meet standards like ASTM A193, ASTM A307, ASTM A325 and metric strength grades such as 8.8, 10.9 and 12.9.
Lifting eye bolts come in metric and imperial size ranges with Unified National Coarse (UNC), Unified National Fine (UNF), fixed pitch (UN) and ISO metric thread profiles. Stainless steel eye bolts are widely used in marine, offshore, and corrosive environments where durability and corrosion resistance are critical.
