What is Hastelloy C276?

Hastelloy C276, also known as UNS N10276, is a versatile nickel-molybdenum-chromium superalloy that includes a small amount of tungsten. This composition gives it outstanding corrosion resistance in many harsh environments. It’s especially effective in reducing atmospheres, where it provides superior resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking. The low carbon content in Alloy C276 prevents carbide precipitation during welding, making it an excellent choice for welded components that don’t need post-weld heat treatment.

This alloy is used extensively in the recovery and processing of sour natural gas, which contains corrosive elements like hydrogen sulfide (H2S), carbon dioxide (CO2), and chlorides. Carbon and alloy steels cannot withstand this environment and are prone to failure from sulfide stress cracking or stress corrosion cracking. The advanced chemistry of Alloy C276 makes it resistant to sour gas even at high temperatures and pressures found in deep wells.

Manufacturing Process of Hastelloy C276 Sheets & Plates
