What is Stainless Steel 304L Round Bar
The “L” in 304L denotes the low-carbon chemistry of the 304 austenitic family. Because carbon is capped at 0.030%, chromium carbides do not form along the grain boundaries during welding, which keeps the heat-affected zone free from sensitisation. The result is a general-purpose, non-magnetic stainless bar with excellent weldability and corrosion resistance, at a slightly lower tensile and yield strength than standard 304. Dual-certified 304/304L bars meet the low-carbon limit of 304L while retaining the higher strength level of 304, giving the best of both grades.

What is the difference between 304 and 304L round bar?
304L has a lower carbon content (0.030% max versus 0.08% for 304). This prevents carbide precipitation during welding, so 304L resists intergranular corrosion and can be used as-welded, while 304 offers slightly higher strength for structural use.
Is 304L round bar magnetic?
In the annealed condition 304L round bar is non-magnetic. It can become slightly magnetic after cold working or welding.
