Inconel 718 Sheets & Plates

Jade Alloys is a Mumbai-based manufacturer, supplier, and exporter of Inconel 718 sheets and Inconel 718 plates, serving customers across 50+ countries with ASTM B670-certified stock available for immediate dispatch. We offer the full product range of Inconel 718 sheets, plates, coils, shim sheets, perforated sheets, strips, foils, and custom-cut forms in standard and bespoke sizes to suit your project drawings.

Inconel 718 is a precipitation-hardened nickel-chromium superalloy whose mechanical performance is driven by niobium and molybdenum additions. These elements form gamma double-prime and gamma prime precipitate phases during the aging cycle, producing tensile strengths in excess of 1275 MPa and yield strengths above 1034 MPa properties that hold reliably up to 704 degrees C (1300 degrees F). Critically, this age-hardening response is slow enough that the alloy can be welded and formed before heat treatment without spontaneous hardening, a trait that sets Inconel 718 apart from most other high-strength nickel alloys.

In corrosive service, Inconel 718 sheets and plates resist pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking across a broad range of aggressive media including H2S, CO2, chloride brines, and sulfide-bearing fluids. This combination of strength and corrosion resistance makes 718 Inconel sheet the material of choice for downhole components, pressure vessels, turbine hardware, and structural members in aerospace, oil & gas, and power generation environments where other alloys fall short.

The alloy carries high creep-rupture strength up to 700 degrees C and outstanding relaxation resistance, making it a reliable choice for spring applications and fastener systems under sustained load. Inconel 718 is available in all standard product and finish designations including cold-rolled 2B and bright-annealed (BA) sheets, hot-rolled No.1 plates, and polished, embossed, and perforated finishes. Equivalent designations are UNS N07718, Werkstoff Nr. 2.4668, JIS NCF 718, AMS 5596, and AMS 5597, and Jade Alloys can supply any of these standards with full mill certification.

How Inconel 718 Sheets & Plates Are Manufactured

Inconel 718 sheets and plates are produced through the following process steps:

  • Vacuum induction melting (VIM) followed by vacuum arc remelting (VAR) to achieve a consistent and clean microstructure throughout the ingot.
  • Hot rolling of slabs between 900 and 1200 degrees C to achieve the target plate thickness.
  • Cold rolling for sheets below 3 mm, with intermediate annealing passes to relieve work hardening.
  • Solution annealing at 925 to 1010 degrees C followed by rapid water quench to hold alloying elements in solid solution.
  • Optional precipitation hardening (aging) at 720 degrees C for 8 hours, furnace cool to 620 degrees C, hold for 10 hours, then air cool to achieve full strength.
  • Final inspection including chemical analysis, mechanical testing, ultrasonic testing (UT), hydrostatic testing, and surface treatment as required.

Heat Treatment Conditions for Inconel 718 Sheet & Plate

Annealed / Solution-Treated Condition (per AMS 5596)

Solution anneal at 925 to 1010 degrees C (1700 to 1850 degrees F) followed by rapid quench. This is the standard delivery condition for sheets and plates unless otherwise specified. In this condition the alloy is soft and ductile, offering tensile strength of approximately 930 MPa and yield strength of approximately 482 MPa.

Precipitation Hardened / Aged Condition (per AMS 5597)

Solution anneal followed by aging at 720 degrees C (1325 degrees F) for 8 hours, furnace cool to 620 degrees C (1150 degrees F), hold for 10 hours, then air cool. This process achieves tensile strength of 1275 MPa or greater and yield strength of 1034 MPa or greater, making the material suitable for the most demanding aerospace and oil & gas applications.

Jade Alloys can supply Inconel 718 in either the annealed or aged condition. Please specify the required condition and applicable standard at the time of enquiry.

Welding and Machinability of Inconel 718 Sheets & Plates

Inconel 718 sheet and plate can be welded using gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), and submerged arc welding (SAW). Matching filler metals such as ERNiFeCr-2 are recommended. Inconel 718 has superior weldability among precipitation-hardened nickel alloys, as it does not spontaneously harden during welding. Post-weld heat treatment is recommended for high-stress applications.

Machining: Inconel 718 can be machined using conventional tooling suited for iron-based alloys. Water-based coolants are required for high-speed operations including milling, grinding, and turning. Carbide tooling with positive rake angles and rigid setups give the best results.

Frequently Asked Questions about Inconel 718 Sheets & Plates

What is the difference between Inconel 718 sheet and plate?

Inconel 718 sheet refers to material up to 3 mm (approximately 0.125 inch) thick; plate is 3 mm and above. Both are available under ASTM B670. Sheets are typically supplied in cold-rolled finish (2B, BA), while plates are supplied in hot-rolled (No.1) or descaled condition.

What is the current price of Inconel 718 sheet?

Inconel 718 sheet prices vary with nickel market rates, order quantity, thickness, and finish. Contact Jade Alloys for a same-day quote with current pricing. Indicative pricing is shown in the price table above.

Can Inconel 718 sheets be welded?

Yes. Inconel 718 has superior weldability among precipitation-hardened nickel alloys. It can be welded using GTAW, GMAW, SMAW, and SAW processes without spontaneous hardening. Post-weld heat treatment is recommended for high-stress applications.

What certifications does Inconel 718 sheet come with?

Jade Alloys supplies Inconel 718 with EN 10204 3.1 Mill Test Certificates as standard. Third-party 3.2 inspection is available on request.

What is the maximum service temperature for Inconel 718 plate?
