The Duplex Steel Sheets and Plates are developed on the basis of ferritic-austenitic steel, which gives it a good ratio between corrosion resistance and high strength. This fabrication renders the thinner duplex stainless steel sheet perfectly acceptable in the harsh industrial conditions such as chemical processing, marine and other harsh environments. The hardness of the sheets itself prevents both pitting and crevice corrosion, and the heavier duplex steel plates are capable of operating under heavy high-pressure and high-temperature environments.
Duplex steel is easy to cut, weld and form. It is a relatively inexpensive and very practical substance that has found wide application in structural engineering, oil and gas/petrochemical, and desalination developments. Duplex stainless steel plates and sheets are made of high chromium (usually 18-28 percent), moderate nickel content (1.5 to 8 percent). These mechanical characteristics are obtained with the help of an accurate chemical composition of austenite and ferrite phases. This piece is very effective in providing excellent corrosion resistance, thus it is very dependable in harsh chemical conditions that may involve substances such as acetic, phosphoric, and nitric acid. The alloy does not distort, and it behaves and retains its performance and structural integrity even in higher temperatures.
