DIN 125 Weight Chart: Flat Washer Weight, Size and Dimensions

The weight of every size from M1.6 to M76 is provided in this DIN 125 Weight Chart for DIN 125 Flat Washers that are supplied by Jade Alloys. The other things that comes under this article is DIN 125 A M12 washer weighs 6.27 g, so 1,000 pieces weigh 6.27 kg. The M16 washer weighs 11.3 g. The chart lists grams per piece, kilograms per 100 and kilograms per 1,000, along with the dimensions behind each weight, a formula for calculating other sizes, and weight adjustments for stainless steel and brass. For spring washers and IS series washers, use our washer weight chart. For the standard itself, see our DIN 125 standard page.. For spring washers and IS series washers, use our washer weight chart. For the standard itself, see our DIN 125 standard page.

DIN 125 Washer Weight

Start here if you only need the common sizes. All figures are for a DIN 125 A washer in carbon steel at 7.85 grams per cubic centimetre. One gram per piece is the same number as one kilogram per 1,000 pieces, which is why the first and last columns match.

DIN 125 Washer Dimensions and Size Chart

A weight only makes sense next to the dimensions that produce it. DIN 125 describes a plain round washer with three numbers: the hole diameter d1, the outer diameter d2 and the thickness h. The table below is the din 125 m12 / m16 weight and din 125 washer size chart for the sizes buyers ask about most, with the calculated weight of each.

Why the weight does not rise with every size

Look closely and you will see a few places where a larger size weighs less than the one before it. M27 is lighter than M26, M33 is lighter than M32, and M36 is lighter than M35. These are not typing errors. In those groups the sizes share the same outer diameter and thickness, and only the hole grows. A bigger hole removes more metal, so the washer gets lighter even though the bolt is larger. M26, M27 and M28 all use a 50 mm outer diameter, which is why their weights step down from 43.7 to 42.3 to 40.9 grams.

How accurate are these weights

Treat them as calculated nominal weights. Real washers vary because thickness and diameter tolerances allow a little more or less metal, and a finished washer will normally land within about five percent of the figure above. For critical shipping or load calculations, weigh a sample from the batch.

DIN 125 M12 and M16 Weight

These two sizes turn up on almost every structural and machinery bill of materials, so they get their own answers.

DIN 125 M12 weight: 6.27 grams per piece, which is 6.27 kilograms per 1,000 washers. The washer has a 13 mm hole, a 24 mm outer diameter and a thickness of 2.5 mm. An M12 bolt fitted with a washer under the head and another under the nut carries 12.54 grams of washers per assembly.

DIN 125 M16 weight: 11.3 grams per piece, which is 11.3 kilograms per 1,000 washers. The washer has a 17 mm hole, a 30 mm outer diameter and a thickness of 3 mm. One washer under the head and one under the nut adds 22.6 grams to each M16 assembly.

For a job of 500 M12 bolts with two washers each, that is 1,000 washers, or 6.27 kg of washers on the delivery. Ourhex bolts andhex nuts are usually ordered alongside them in the same sizes.

How to Calculate DIN 125 Washer Weight

If your size is not in the chart, or you want to check a figure, the sum takes about a minute. A washer is a flat ring, so its weight is the area of the ring, times its thickness, times the density of the metal.

Weight in grams = 0.7854 x (d2 squared minus d1 squared) x h x density, divided by 1,000

Density is in grams per cubic centimetre and all dimensions are in millimetres. Here is the worked example for the DIN 125 M12 washer in carbon steel.

Step 1. Find the dimensions

  1. Find the dimensions. From the dimensions table above, an M12 washer has d1 of 13 mm, d2 of 24 mm and h of 2.5 mm.

Step 2. Work out the ring volume

  1. 24 squared is 576 and 13 squared is 169, so the difference is 407. Multiply by 0.7854 to get a ring area of 319.7 square mm, then by 2.5 mm thickness to get 799.3 cubic mm.

Step 3. Apply density

  1. Multiply 799.3 by 7.85 and divide by 1,000. The answer is 6.27 grams, which matches the chart exactly.

Run the same sum for M16 and you get 11.3 grams. For a fast check on larger orders, our metal weights calculator handles any size and material.

Weight in Stainless Steel, Brass and Other Materials

Every figure above is for carbon steel. Other metals weigh more or less because their density is different, so you scale the carbon steel number by a simple factor. Stainless steel is only slightly heavier, which is why stainless steel fasteners are easy to estimate from a carbon steel chart.

MaterialDensity (g per cubic cm)Factor against carbon steel
Carbon steel and alloy steel7.851.00
Stainless steel A2 (304)7.931.01
Stainless steel A4 (316)7.981.02
Brass8.50 / 2.701.08
Aluminium8.50 / 2.700.34

Example: an M12 washer in A2 stainless steel weighs 6.27 multiplied by 1.01, which is 6.33 grams, so 1,000 pieces weigh 6.33 kg. Plating adds very little, normally well under one percent for zinc plating. Hot dip galvanising adds a few percent on thin washers. If weight is critical on a galvanised order, weigh a sample after coating. Our range also includes carbon steel fasteners in the same sizes.

Washer Weight by Quantity

Estimators rarely buy one washer. Use this table for flat washer weight in kg at 1,000 and 10,000 pieces. It excludes packing and pallets.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What does a DIN 125 M12 washer weigh?

A carbon steel DIN 125 A M12 washer weighs about 6.27 g. One thousand washers weigh 6.27 kg. It has a 13 mm hole, a 24 mm outer diameter and a thickness of 2.5 mm.

2. What is the weight of an M16 DIN 125 washer?

A carbon steel DIN 125 A M16 washer weighs about 11.3 g, so 1,000 pieces weigh 11.3 kg. It has a 17 mm hole, a 30 mm outer diameter and a thickness of 3 mm.

3. What is the difference between DIN 125 A and B?

Form A has a plain outer edge, while Form B has a chamfered outer edge. Form A corresponds to ISO 7089, and Form B corresponds to ISO 7090. Check the applicable standard and dimensions when selecting a washer.

4. Is DIN 125 the same as ISO 7089?

DIN 125 Form A corresponds to ISO 7089, while Form B corresponds to ISO 7090. Many engineering drawings and purchase orders still refer to DIN 125, so confirm the specified standard before ordering.

5. What is the weight of 1,000 DIN 125 M10 washers?

One thousand DIN 125 A M10 washers weigh approximately 3.57 kg in carbon steel, equivalent to 3.57 g per washer. This figure excludes packaging and pallets.

6. How do you calculate DIN 125 washer weight?

Multiply 0.7854 by the difference between the outer diameter squared and the hole diameter squared, then multiply by the thickness and material density. Use millimetres for dimensions and a consistent density conversion to calculate the weight in grams.

7. Does a stainless steel DIN 125 washer weigh more than carbon steel?

Yes, slightly. Stainless steel A2 and A4 washers can weigh more than carbon steel washers of the same dimensions because their material densities differ. The exact difference depends on the stainless steel grade and washer dimensions.

8. What are the dimensions of a DIN 125 M12 washer?

A DIN 125 A M12 washer has a 13 mm hole diameter, a 24 mm outer diameter and a thickness of 2.5 mm.
